[21F] Want to switch from BTech to finance — need advice.

Myquals: entering 4th year of BTech CSE

Hi guys, I’m entering my final year of BTech CSE, but I never really connected with coding or tech roles. I mainly took engineering because of family pressure, and over time I realized I’m much more interested in finance/business/markets side and want to switch into that field somehow. But I genuinely don’t know where to start.

With all the layoffs and recession talks going on, placements are already scary and I also don’t want to continue in coding jobs.

So I wanted genuine advice from people already in finance or who switched from engineering:

  • How can someone from BTech switch into finance?
  • Is CFA worth starting in final year?
  • What skills/certifications should I learn first?
  • What kind of finance internships/jobs can a fresher from BTech get?
  • Is trading actually a realistic career path?

I’m willing to work hard, I just feel like I have no roadmap right now 🙏

(if nothing works out, I’ll probably start preparing for CAT and go for MBA🤸‍♀️)
