Ailo Rent Payment Platform - Security Concerns
I am a renter in Melbourne and have just been informed by my property manager that their agency is switching all rent payment and maintenance communication to a new platform called Ailo. After a transition period over the next 2 weeks, all rent payments going forward will need to be made through this platform (the options before this were BPay or direct transfer into a bank account).
Upon setting up the Ailo app and associated account, I noticed that the only way to pay the rent is to save your payment method, such as your bank account details (which, coincidentally, is the only method that does not incur an additional fee), or credit/debit card.
I am not comfortable saving my bank account details into this app because I am concerned about any potential security breaches. I am thinking I might need to set up a separate bank account that is only used for rent payments and that only receives funds on the date that the rent is due to be paid.
Has anyone else used this app? Does anyone else share my concerns? Are there any other options that would help keep my main bank account safe in the face of growing cybersecurity risks?
I would greatly appreciate any advice, thanks everyone!
