Rudiments Practice
Hey. I haven’t seriously played or practiced drums in almost a year (it’s a long story). Anyways I’ve learned how to play drums by listening and watching drummers play songs and figuring parts out myself. I want to start playing again but I feel this method of learning can only take me so far and I need to practice more seriously to play more difficult stuff. I want to start seriously practicing rudiments to improve my hands.
I’ve practiced rudiments before but have always got overwhelmed by how many rudiments there are and quickly lose interest in practicing them. So the big question is, what are the essential rudiments that I should start practicing? I mean the ones that are super common and if you get really good at these you can basically play a lot of stuff. Also what are some of your practice routines? Finally, do drummers actually practice all the rudiments or just pick out the ones they like and play most often?
If this helps I play mostly rock/metal music and would consider myself an upper intermediate/ lower advance drummer.
