Why am I weak in the gym but not in sports/daily life?
I'm an obese basketball lover; I've played since I was a kid, and I play regularly now. While I'm obviously no superstar athlete, I definitely can hoop. I'm 6'1 123kgs and although basketball is usually dominated by tall guys, the court I usually play at only has 5 or 6 people taller than me.
Anyway, enough of my intro, but I think my body as a whole is very strong, at least relatively, but some muscle groups, especially the ones that work together in lifts, are not. What I mean is, in basketball I move people and they can barely move me, even with momentum driving. And while there are no players near pro-level where I play at, it's mostly people I've played with since I was a toddler and they can definitely use their body for sports. They're no slouches weight-wise either. In fact there are few obvious lifters there, but I still overpower them boxing out, bumps, etc. Funny enough, although I know the reason, the only ones I can't overpower are the strong little guys.
When I hit the gym, however, I'm fucking weak for my size. I can only incline dumbbell press 22.5kgs for 10 reps the first set then 8 or 9 the 2nd. My squat is only like 75kg for 8 reps, etc. Why is this the case?
