Adding solar to my “official” setup

Hello Reddit.

I just got 25 solar panels. A solar installer went out of business and was offloading them. Right now I have an 8.5 KW, ground mount, grid tied system. It was installed by a professional company and is working great. Since I got the solar, I got an electric car and started heating/ cooling my garage so my power bill has gone back up.

I’m wondering what the best way would be to add some solar to my garage to help take the edge off charging my car and running the HVAC.

A few things I am concerned about:

-I have a really good net metering contract right now. I don’t want to risk resetting that because they don’t offer it anymore.

-I don’t want to risk any warranty loss of my current solar setup

- I want to keep it cheap. No point in saving on electric if I spend $10k setting it up. I already saved on the panels so I am hoping to do the rest for a reasonable price.

Any tips on how to integrate some of these new panels would be greatly appreciated

Weird hypothetical, wondering how this could play out in court

Just watched a video of 3 guys getting caught with a Goliath Grouper while fishing (protected species, very illegal to keep)

In the video the one kid admits to catching the fish but I’m wondering what would happen if they didn’t.

So say there’s the 3 guys on the boat. There’s one fish that one of them had to have caught but none of them admit to catching it.

In court they all say they can’t remember who caught it but maintain that it wasn’t them.

How would that play out? I assume you couldn’t charge all three of them with killing the fish. But you wouldn’t have enough evidence to charge any 1 of them

Secondary solar setup for EV charging

Recently, a solar company went out of business near me and liquidated their stock for next to nothing. I got 20x 400 watt panels for around $500.

So I have an 8.5 KW system currently. I sized it for my
House when I got it but have since added AC to my garage and got an EV. So my power bill has (somewhat) gone back up.

I have a 40 kw lvl2 charger currently but I think most of the time I could get away with doing a lvl 1 charger if I wanted to because I work from home.

What id like to do is add a second, smaller array dedicated to charging the EV. I have space on the garage roof.

The big question I have is what I should do for an inverter. I’m thinking I just use an inverter to provide power when the sun is out. It would shut off at night and just charge the car during the day. That way I can keep it completely separate from my current solar setup and not worry about the power company. I also don’t really want to pay for the battery storage.

Is any of this feasible or worth it at all?
