I'm a former pastor and I built a Bible verse memorizing app 'Mannael'. Would love your honest feedback
Hi everyone. First off, thank you to u/MRH2 for letting me post this. I really appreciate the mod team keeping the door open for small indie devs like me.
A bit about me. I was a pastor for over 12 years. I still remember being in our church ministry school, when we were each given a list of 100 scriptures to memorize. It was hard, and honestly I kept wishing I had something to help me get them into my head.
But those verses stuck. They went into my heart and my mind and they have stayed there ever since. They were ready in the moments I needed them most, when I was going through my own hard times, and when I was trying to help someone else through theirs.
That is why I believe it is not enough to only read the Bible. If you memorize it and really keep it in your heart, the Word is ready the moment you need it, instead of just sitting on a shelf.
So one day I had an idea. What if you took that Duolingo style of building a daily habit, and pointed it at memorizing scripture? That is how Mannael started.
Here is how it works:
- Short lessons, about five minutes each, to start a new verse or review old ones
- Each verse goes from easy to hard. You read it, you hear it, you fill in the blanks, you rebuild it, and then you recall it from memory
- It brings a verse back to you right before you would normally forget it, so it actually sticks
- Every verse has audio, so you can learn by ear or review on the go
- A daily goal and a streak to keep you coming back
- Hundreds of well loved passages, like the Psalms, the words of Jesus, and Paul's letters
- You can also just read the Bible in it
- Right now it has KJV and the Berean Standard Bible, with more translations on the way

It is new and definitely not perfect yet, but I really want this app to be genuinely useful, not just another app on the store. That is why I would rather hear from you than keep guessing.
