It's set in a high Sci fi world where four main empires reign. The Atherian Empire, The Shay Empire, The Fleshkin Republic, and The Twi Supercolony.

As of now, there's a civil dispute in the Fleshkin Republic that the Fleshkin pures, turned to the Shays for help with, despite their strong economic ties with the Atherian and Twi Empires. Why? The Shays have powerful brainwashing technology that can rewrite a person's language processing centers in their brain that force their language, which is very newspeak-esque, upon the individual. The Fleshkin offered weapons and goods for the Shay war effort against the Atherians in exchange for this technology. And it's currently blowing up in their face.
