NBD for MY Wife and I

My wife and I are training for RAGBRAI 2027 (started early!), and after putting hundreds of miles on our Trek Marlin’s we pulled the trigger on 2 new SL5 Gen 5’s. The Marlins were like training with a weighted vest, and these fly!

We initially ordered from our LBS at the beginning of August and had a Dec 28 delivery date to the LBS. I was up last weekend with kidney stones 🥴 and found the L and ML frames that we needed stock, so I snagged them!

Domane SL Gen 4 vs 5

I've been in the market for a Domane SL 5, but I've been in a holding pattern since July waiting for the new Gen 5.

From what I've been seeing, the Gen 5 is getting the following changes: revised frame geometry, no more IsoSpeed, no more frame storage, and a roughly $1,000 lower MSRP.

Now that the Gen 4 is on sale for around $1,100 off, it puts the Gen 4 pretty much in line with the rumored/reported price of the Gen 5. That has me wondering whether the Gen 4 might actually be the better buy at the same price, since it does have the IsoSpeed and frame storage. I also like the colors of the Gen 4 better than the Gen 5 rumored colors.

I've heard both praise and horror stories about IsoSpeed, so I'm honestly on the fence about whether losing it on the Gen 5 is a big deal. I'm also not clear on how much the drivetrain/components are changing between the Gen 4 and Gen 5 SL 5.

For those who have hands-on experience with both?

- If they're essentially the same price, which one would you buy?
- Is losing IsoSpeed actually noticeable?
- Any known issues with the Gen 4 that would make you choose the Gen 5?
- Are the drivetrain components staying the same?

Thanks for any help!
