Italy and Greece Honeymoon Trip Itinerary

Hey everyone! My fiancée and I are planning our honeymoon this summer and would love recommendations, advice, hidden gems, or things you wish you knew before your own trip. We’ve both never been to Italy or Greece before, and while we’re incredibly excited, the amount of things to do has honestly become a little overwhelming.

We’re trying to strike a balance between seeing the iconic “must-do” places while also leaving room to relax, wander, and enjoy the honeymoon without feeling like every minute is scheduled.

Here’s our itinerary:

- Venice — June 20–22
- Florence — June 22–25
- Rome — June 25–27
- Amalfi Coast — June 27–30
- Naples — June 30–July 1 (just for our flight)
- Chania, Crete — July 1–5
- Athens — July 5–7

A few things we already know we want to do:
- Wine tasting/vineyard experience
- Cooking class
- Boat tour somewhere along the Amalfi Coast or Greece
- See the major iconic sites (Colosseum, Duomo, Vatican, etc.)
- Relaxing beach days mixed with adventure/exploring

What we’re mainly looking for:
- Hidden gems/local favorites
- Romantic experiences
- Amazing food recommendations
- Sunset spots/views
- Easy day trips worth doing
- Places/activities that are actually worth the hype
- Things that are overrated and maybe skippable
- Recommendations that fit well for a honeymoon vibe

A few things people have already suggested:
- Elafonisi Beach / Balos Lagoon in Crete
- Samariá Gorge
- Renting a car in Crete
- Capri boat tours
- Tuscany wine tours
- Sunset cruises

Some questions we’ve been struggling with:

  1. What would you prioritize with this amount of time in each place?
  2. Are there any experiences that ended up being the highlight of your honeymoon/trip?
  3. What activities should we book well in advance vs leave flexible?
  4. Is renting a car worth it anywhere on this itinerary?
  5. Any restaurants, cafés, wineries, beach clubs, or viewpoints we absolutely shouldn’t miss?
  6. Any tips for avoiding burnout while still seeing a lot?

We’re open to pretty much any recommendations and would especially love hearing from people who have honeymooned in Italy/Greece before. Thanks in advance!

Greece Honeymoon Recommendations

Hey everyone! My fiancée and I are ending our honeymoon with a short trip to Greece and would love some advice from people who have actually been there. We’ll be flying into Chania, Crete on July 1st, staying until the 5th, then heading to Athens until we fly home on the 7th.

This will be both of our first times in Greece, and honestly the amount of things to do has been pretty overwhelming. We’re trying to figure out what’s realistically worth doing with the amount of time we have and would love recommendations.

A little about what we’re looking for:
- Mix of relaxing + adventure
- Beautiful scenery/beaches
- Authentic food and experiences
- Hidden gems/local favorites
- A couple “must-do” iconic experiences
- We don’t mind renting a car if it’s worth it

Some things people have already recommended:
- Elafonisi Beach (possibly by boat)
- Balos Lagoon
- Renting a car and driving around Crete
- Samariá Gorge hike
- Exploring old town Chania

Main questions:

  1. With only 4 days in Crete, what would you prioritize?
  2. Is Samariá Gorge worth doing on a honeymoon trip or is it too exhausting/time consuming?
  3. Better experience for Elafonisi/Balos: boat tour or rental car?
  4. Any restaurants, wineries, sunset spots, or experiences we absolutely shouldn’t miss?
  5. Best way to spend our short time in Athens before flying home?

We’re open to pretty much anything and would really appreciate any itinerary ideas, tips, or things you wish you knew before going. Thanks!
