You can love Ramayana and still criticize its VFX why is that so controversial?- PEOPLE PLEASE READ IT
I genuinely want to understand why people in this community are so negative toward genuine criticism of the Ramayana trailer. Why become so aggressive toward someone who is sincerely pointing out issues with the trailer's lack of depth, only to attack and mock them as “another internet VFX expert”?
When you watch movies as a form of enjoyment, passion, hobby, and joy, you naturally develop an understanding of what looks good and what doesn't. And honestly, some parts of the Ramayana trailer look really off not everything, but certain shots and VFX absolutely deserve criticism.
Especially when you compare it with Dune, which reportedly involves the same VFX company, with the work being done around the same period and both projects releasing in the same year. Just look at the difference in the visual execution between the two trailers. And before someone calls me a troll, I'm specifically talking about people who are genuinely criticizing the film, not those who are simply mocking or hating on it.
A major reason people have such high expectations is because our own director has given numerous interviews discussing the project, and in one of the most-watched interviews, the VFX and CGI were compared to something like Avatar, which represents one of the highest standards in modern filmmaking. When you make comparisons to masterpieces, obviously people are going to expect that level of quality. And when the same VFX company has worked on iconic films that have collectively earned numerous Oscars, expectations naturally become even higher. Forget the budget for a momentnit really isn't that complicated.
On another note, why do some of you feel the need to diminish the Doomsday trailer just to make Ramayana look better? You don't have to put down one movie to praise another. They're completely different films, with different genres, styles, and creative approaches. Comparing them this way doesn't really make sense.
People like me became Marvel fans because of two decades of storytelling, characters, and emotional investment. Marvel became a part of our lives as we grew up with it and watched pop culture evolve around it. People didn't become fans simply because of big action sequences or impressive CGI. It's the emotion and storytelling that make people care enough to go to the theatre.
And finally, I don't think it's even fair to judge Marvel's CGI and VFX solely from a trailer because Marvel is notorious for continuing post-production and VFX work until very late in the process. Infinity War is a perfect example: the trailer contained footage that was significantly different from the final film, including shots that never even appeared in the theatrical version. Spider-Man: Brand New Day is another example where people who have followed the project can see how much footage can change between trailers and the final movie.
I'm attaching a clip of the Iron Man test footage showing how it looked before and how much it evolved by the time the movie was released. Literally anyone with eyes can see the difference.
So I genuinely hope DNEG does something similar with Ramayana. Maybe the final film will look substantially better than what we've seen so far.
Fingers crossed. 🤞
