Not sure of the console because I played it on a PC emulator as a kid but its a tactics game where you play as a prince. The job system is set per character and you can only choose from two branches per character, like for the MC, one of the branches is to become king. It also has permadeath. Aside from the characters themselves fighting, they also have armies or sub unit of sorts.

Some specifics that I can think of is: one of the characters can become a crocodile rider and the priestess' initial army were a bunch of civilians holding slippers.
