A few months ago I called a friend in the UK. He was struggling — one of his closest mates had moved away, and with it, something simple disappeared: going to the local for a pint and talking. That one evening a week had been his outlet.
It hit me because I’ve been in the same boat here in Dublin (Ireland).
You come home on a Friday, you’d actually fancy heading out for a pint, but there’s nobody to call or meet. So you stay in and tell yourself it’s grand.
It’s not something lads really talk about much, but I think a lot of men are quietly in that situation.
I kept thinking about how things used to be — meeting friends, talking shite, venting, or just being around people. That kind of connection matters more than people realise.
So I built a small app called Pint with the Lads (PWTL).
The idea is straightforward:
- see who’s around locally
- post a quick “anyone fancy a pint?” shout
- join meetups nearby
- chat before heading out
No dating-app vibe. No algorithms. Just trying to make it easier for lads to meet up in real life again.
I’m launching it in Dublin first to see if there’s actually interest.
Would genuinely appreciate feedback — even if you think it’s a terrible idea.
