So I was recently going through the process of joining the Navy Reserves. My top choices were mostly intel-related rates, and when it came time for the pre-approval before signing my contract, my recruiter was told I wouldn’t be accepted into intel because my wife’s family is from Ecuador.

For context: her dad is a naturalized U.S. citizen, her mom had a permanent resident card, all of her siblings are U.S. citizens, and my wife herself (who was born in Ecuador) is currently in the Army and already holds a TS/SCI clearance.

My recruiter was completely confused by this and couldn’t really explain it. Has anyone seen something like this before or have any idea what might actually be going on?
