What I've realized is that most adults, especially those who have achieved a certain level of success materially and in terms of life experience, find it difficult to objectively view themselves. When faced with their mistakes, they either find excuses to justify themselves or, when you point out their errors, nitpick at you in retaliation. Even when they're beyond redemption, they'll find ways to comfort themselves with a kind of mental victory. Therefore, don't be fixated on criticizing others or trying to change them, especially those close to you.
