Long-term U.S. immigration impact of single non-violent felony
Hi all,
I’m trying to understand long-term U.S. immigration consequences of my situation and would appreciate informed input.
Facts:
I am currently in F-1 status .
I originally faced drug possession charges, but those were amended. I am now resolving the case as a conviction for “Obstructing Official Business” (non-violent).
No prior criminal history.
Sentence is expected to be under 12 months (likely community control; no significant jail time).
No fraud or deceit element in the charge.
My main concern is long-term U.S. immigration viability, not immediate travel.
