Help my wife pick her first Zelda game

My wife (33) is the definition of a casual gamer. She grew up with Sims and Civ on her family computer but never really had a console. Stardew Valley and Kirby and the Forgotten Land are her current favorite games. But she also enjoys co-op/competitive games like Mario Kart, Plate Up/Overcooked, Boomerang Fu. In her mind, there are four broad types of games (her actual words and definitions):

Shoot ‘em ups: Not actual schmups but literally any game with a gun where the aim is to shoot other things. Halo and CoD are prime examples. Worms also falls into this category because “they have guns and you shoot the other worms.”

Storybook games: any game that doesn’t just drop you into the game immediately and has a cutscene longer than 15 seconds.

Open world games: self explanatory, but any game where you can go where you want. Elden Ring, Hogwarts Legacy, Kirby and the Forgotten Land.

Computer games: Sims, Civ, Neopets, Oregon Trail, etc. Stardew is technically “a computer game but on the Switch.”

She knows what Zelda is (but thinks it’s dumb it’s called Zelda when the main protagonist is Link) but is curious to try a Zelda game for the first time. Based on the above, what do you think the best place for her to start would be? OG Zelda feels too hard due to lack of direction. I worry she’d bounce off OoT/MM because it will feel too dated. I was thinking Link’s Awakening, particularly the Switch remake.

Thoughts?
