Hi! I'm an indie developer learning FL Studio to score my own games. I don't have a music background, but I want to translate the melodies in my head into the DAW—much like Toby Fox did. My goal isn't to become a professional musician or spend years mastering the craft; I just want to be able to create the melodies and atmospheres I have in my head into the game.
How much music theory is actually "essential" for this? Are basic scales and chord progressions enough to get a decent atmosphere, or do I need to dive deeper?
Any tips for a beginner dev/composer would be awesome. Thanks!
