My wife and I recently got married. We each own our own house, and we want to sell my house and buy something more suitable for us in the town where she works.
I have a daughter who is currently at University so doesn't live with me, but my house is her home base when she's not at Uni. My wife's house is too small for us all to stay in.
My house has been on the market since November, but it's been slow. We've had a couple of low offers well below the asking price. We are looking for a place to buy in town, but suitable houses are rare in our area, and we have specific things we want.
Now an opportunity has come up to rent a lovely house in the place we want to live. It's big enough for us all, and the rent is very reasonable. Rental houses are rare, and competition is high in this area.
Should we apply to rent it, and put both houses on the market? The pros are we would have somewhere suitable for us all, and if we sell both houses we will be in a strong position to buy when the right house comes up. The risk is if we don't sell our houses for a while, we're stuck with two houses and throwing money away on a rental we don't need. We can afford to do it, but is it worth it?
Any advice would be welcome!
