Every top class champion from 2001 to 2020 have signed a contract for both Honda and Ducati

Rossi: debuted with a factory supported satellite Honda in 2000, won the next three years for the Works team and later on had a stint at Ducati for 2011-2012

Hayden: also debuted with Honda in 2003, won their first title since Rossi in 2006 defeating the man and joined Ducati in 2009

Stoner: another Honda debutant but on a year old satellite bike at LCR in 2006. Joined Ducati in 2007 and won a title the same year then defected to Works Honda for 2011 and won a title the same year

Lorenzo: joined Ducati for 2017-18 and then Honda in 2019 on a two year contract that ended the same year with his retirement

Marquez: entered the class with Honda, won a title for them in his rookie year and five more in the next six years. Mutually dissolved the €100m 2021-2024 contract in its third year to join Ducati at Gresini in 2024. Joined the Works team in 2025 and won the title the same year

Mir: joined Honda in 2023 and is Ducati bound at Gresini for 2027, the latest champion to carry on this tradition

Four of these champs signed for Ducati before its golden era. The only ones to neither start their top class careers on a Honda nor win a title for either companies are Lorenzo (Yamaha) and Mir (Suzuki) - but he technically has a chance for the latter. Lorenzo is the only rider to not score a podium for Honda. Stoner and Marquez are the only riders to win titles for both Honda and Ducati and both did it in their Works debut.

Notable non-champs who also rode for both: Gibernau, Melandri, Dovizioso, Crutchlow, Zarco and Alex Marquez

The champions of 2021-2024 are actually halfway through this tradition with Quartararo Honda bound for 2027 and Bagnaia and Martin's title winning stints at Ducati. Which of the three do you think will complete it?
