Professionally casted sterling silver seems off
Hey everyone,
I did my first casting for a set of rings through a professional casting house and just got the rings back. The material casted is supposed to be sterling silver but it seems to have some odd traits and seems different sterling silver rings I've bought from stores.
First, when I picked up the rings, the casting house told me there was a weird instance where the casting came out somewhat green but upon tumbling it seemed fine. Being new to this I didn't think much of this but google says this usually happens when copper is casted.
Second, there's a metallic smell coming from the rings. None of my sterling silver jewelry smell at all and this is again consistent with higher levels of copper.
Third, I feel like my hands are getting irritated as I work on the rings.
Am I just being crazy? Is this a normal occurrence for freshly casted sterling silver to be like this? If so how do I fix it? I've tried cleaning it in different ways and the smell seems to go away for a short period but eventually comes back.
I've added some photos of the rings for reference.
Thanks in advance!
