Cape Henlopen Car Camping
Hello,
My boyfriend and I have been car camping for a while now and usually try to always stay at state parks. We have been to several states and never had an issue with car camping. I always check when booking and read all the rules.
This past weekend we went to Cape Henlopen state park in Delaware. We got there late Friday night and Saturday when we got our parking pass the lady told us we were violating park rules because we were camping in our car. She said that they don’t want people going to their cars when it’s cold????
We booked an RV spot (all that was available). We had tents on one side, RVs on the other side, sprinter vans, all different kinds of setup. I talked to her because we were enjoying our stay and I would love to come back. I explained nothing was on the website and there was no policy about car camping. Her suggestion was for us to buy a tent. She even said in all Delaware state parks car camping is not allowed.
Since then I have continued deep diving and have found nothing online about this being true. I genuinely am confused and would love to go in the future, but now hesitant to book again in Delaware.
Thanks!
Update:
I called the Delaware State Parks number directly just the general number and they said car camping is allowed. There is no policy against it just try to book a tent site. Then I went and called the Cape Henlopen number specifically and spoke with someone and they said no car camping is allowed. Ugh. Make it make sense.
