My current unit is a 2.5 ton, 14 seer from 2020. I live near the beach and the salt air hasn’t been kind. The unit croaked last night and it looks like the compressor has leaked out all the refrigerant.
The outdoor unit is pretty much rust and lots of the fins are gone and the coil is visible.
I have the following estimate;
-2.5 ton, 14.3 seer coastal heat pump split system
-5kw strip heater
-ss2 and ss3 float switch
-reuse existing pad
-reuse existing secondary drain pan
-flush copper line set
-10 year parts / 1 year labor warranty
$7000
I have been reading about the different suggestions for the climate I’m in, vs the lifespan of units.
Ideally it could make sense to upgrade to a 16seer, two stage condenser and variable speed air handler. With the condenser being a coastal unit. But this all comes down to the estimates.
Any thoughts on the first estimate?
I currently use a 1” filter, but if going to a new air handler should I ask for a 2” filter?
