Hi everyone,
I’m wondering how much I could realistically save by bringing a car like a Tesla Model Y from the United Kingdom to Ireland, and if anyone can share real examples.
I feel that many dealers are overcharging. For example, one dealer offered me €500 for my car, and I sold it myself on DoneDeal for €1,600 within two weeks.
I used to think dealers had efficient systems and buying power that would make it not worth the effort for a private person to travel to the UK, buy a car, and re-register it here. But lately, I’m not so sure. It feels like the savings could be significant if you do it yourself.
It reminds me of getting quotes for small jobs. I was once quoted €1,500 to paint skirting boards in my house. I bought paint in Woodie’s for €130 and did it myself in three hours.
I don’t want to blame anyone, but nowadays prices often need to be justified.
So I’m curious: what kind of savings are realistic when importing a car valued around €20,000 from the UK — especially an EV like a Tesla or similar?
Thanks in advance for all your real experiences!
