Terror in the City of Champions - Tom Stanton

Damn this was a great read/listen. Anybody else read this one?

3 championship professional sports teams in Detroit in the same year (it mostly follows the tigers) while Joe Louis is up and coming and it gives insight into a group of racist, violent extremists that infiltrate their communities' positions of authority to cover up hate crimes (by blaming blacks and liberals) and to coerce new members to join.

Even if you don't read it, just go down a rabbit hole about The Black Legion and all their fuckery (and subsequent lack of real consequences). Ought to be taught about in history courses and yet I've never heard of it until this book. Crazy stuff.

Time really is a circle...

Has anyone ever seen any place in Detroit (or elsewhere, I suppose) that sells desktop/paperweight replicas of the Spirit of Detroit or The Fist? Nothing online but 3D prints or photographs.

I'm sure there's probably some copyright stuff at play that prevents these from being sold, but it seems like something that *should* exist somewhere.

Looking to purchase some art from local Detroit artists, doesn't have to be anyone remotely of note. I'm just sort of dabbling and looking to support local artists, especially if something unique to Detroit is on display or at the core of the art.

Any suggestions for galleries with stuff that's typically sub-$1000?

For context, I saw the Library's gallery of local artists' work and loved the idea of it, just didn't see anything specific there that I piqued my interest. Wanted to dive in deeper.
