I know it's silly but the window thing still haunts me-has anyone got more details?
Ok, so Ammon McNeff's dad opening the phone call to the police with a rambling story about his sons being targeted by Reckless Ben and ending with "and one of them shot out my window" just gets me. It tickles me. There is something very strange about it. This is very stupid but the situation is stuck in my head.
It was odd the first time I heard about the loungeroom window being shot because Da McNeff mentioned how he had to pay thousands of dollars to have it replaced and to be blunt, do Americans not have home owners insurance or do millionaires-which papa mcneff seems to be-not make insurance claims? Did he just not want to pay increased rates if making a claim effected his coverage or has the insurance industry in the US stopped coving claims involving guns? For a guy whose businesses all seem to be about using the system to avoid paying for things-I can see he takes spending money as a deep insult and personal injury-but missing the opportunity to rort the system, from a guy who scammed the government? He didn't make an insurance claim to get someone else to cover it?
And also, how did he know it was a fan of Reckless Ben?
After listening to the phone call to the police I wanted to be like sir, you live in a rural area in a country that has more guns than people, have run and continue to run several shady companies, had your own sons not only sue you-although I am sus on something about that-but dob you in for scamming thousands of dollars meant to help people in crisis out of the government which would seem to demonstrate the capacity to cause the kind of feelings in people that are strong and negative, you did not communicate with the person who shot out the window-**how do you know so concretely that it was in anyway related to a fan of Reckless Ben?** was the bullet fcking ENGRAVED? Did a fan of Reckless Ben overcome all known laws of aerodynamics and attach A LETTER DECLARING THE WINDOW A VICTIM OF A FAN OF RECKLESS BEN? Return the legos or the lintels and decorative features of the vestibules will be next?
Absolute James Somerton behaviour. Twas a fan of a youtuber who did this thing to me! So everyone should know I am the victim, the youtuber is to blame and the identity/how I know the watch habits of them is irrelevant!
Admittedly claiming someone shot your window is a different kind of bizarre to claiming a woman wrote in writing from a profile that could be traced that she would falsely accuse you, a famously gay man of sexual assualt because she is fan of a star trek youtuber but it is still bonkers. Oh, and the story hasn't changed. Yet.
Then there is how McNeffy 1 ruled out other possibilities. I mean, I am an Australian and I could have put holes in tin cans from a distance if I wanted to growing up and know plenty of people who did/still do. I know people who hunt with guns. I just somehow, for some reason doubt it's more common for bored people in Australia to go shoot things in the countryside and play silly buggers than in America even if only based on population size. But apparently no one in rural America does that or has accidents while doing so. Why assume it was an unknown person who chose to find the home address of the aging father of one of people in a video and then travel to his state, go out to the countryside, shoot a window, leave no note or any other communication then vanish, satisfied. Passionate enough to travel around with a gun to stalk an elderly man and take out some double glazing but not interested enough to do anything else?
Why assume that instead of some local teenagers hanging out in the same patch of forest or whatever shooting cans and having a stray take out a neighbouring window?
Plus the Father McNeff should have some pride. He shouldn't let him sons actions overshadow his own, even if there are no bored teenagers with access to fire arms in the country-he has to have rubbed some people the wrong way and not just his sons. He and his empire of building bulwarks against the threat of having to pay people money that they are entitled to-my understanding of his companies-are just as capable of making people irate and prone to rash decisions as his sons. He is probably just as capable of such feats. Again, his own sons sued him, took one company he brought for them despite their appalling track record running a single shop and snitched on him so he could have annoyed a lot of people. There is something fishy there but they did do it.
But no, on the phone call to the police he is extremely clear it was definitely a fan of Reckless Ben and because of Reckless Ben's video.
What he is not is worried or scared or concerned.
He is upset he had to pay for a window. From memory he doesn't mention living with anyone else or having any pets-if he does then there is no worry about them being in a house someone has recently shot at which presumably most people would fret over, no mention of hearing the gunshot, no comments about how if he had been in the room he could have died or other thoughts people might have if a bullet entered their home in an area they regularly stand. Just fussing about having to pay for a window and how it's the fault of that Reckless Ben video.
If I was an older person living, possibly on my own, on a property in the country where people can snipe my lounge room window and a stranger who was unhinged enough to decide to take violent action against a relative of one of the people in a youtube video but cunning enough to track down my personal address, committed enough to travel out to my house and again, on that trip out to the home of an old man who has nothing to do with the video while carrying a gun so that's some time to think, unhinged enough to actually shoot. I would probably be less confident it was a once off, I would probably want the police to go track down whoever shot into my home, I would probably be concerned for my safety and the safety of anyone living or visiting my home.
Pappa McNeff is not though. The possibility he could have died or the shooter was still out there is as unlikely to him as the shooter having a motive other than being a fan of a specific youtuber. And this intrigues me, it haunts me, it's such a weird situation
So, does anyone else think he lied to screw his insurance company over because he actually shot the window pretending to be a manly man in his front yard and found a convenient excuse in blaming Reckless Ben? And had to make a police report to get it but also had to downplay the danger because if the cops did actually check they would find ring camera footage or something else showing he was at fault?
Another completely deranged conspiracy theory that could explain why he is staunch in the knowledge that someone he didn't see who didn't communicate their motive but did shoot into his home is not a threat and is a fan of Reckless Ben is that there is some kid in a We Steal From Old People tshirt buried out the back (obviously not it's just funny because how else does it fit together). Also, magic-the old man read the shooters mind and saw Reckless Ben there but also saw no plans to ever shoot at him or his again. Spoooooky.
I don't think there is a non silly answer as to the mystery of Pa McNeff and the Mansion Window Shooter based on the what I have heard Old McNeff say. If you think I am over thinking things, I know. I have insomnia and I overthink how I overthink, a cursed oroboros. It's so silly and minor but I really wish the pieces of information made sense, they really do not.
I am totally interested in more silly theories. I saw while I was writing this that Reckless Ben might have accepted money from a far right shock jock and I'll have to peace out of following if true (a good guy going up against bad guys and a corrupt police force can be heartening to see but morally ambiguous guy who'll do anything for money including sell his own reputation to an extremist who wants to promote himself vs other people who've done messed up stuff for money is less incentive to care about some random court cases in a foreign country-that is harder to be invested in) but the Reckless Ben fandom, particularly on youtube, has been really wholesome and interesting and meant seeing a lot of channels I otherwise wouldn't have heard of so thank you. But I'll post in case it is not true and someone else out there is also haunted by the McNeff Window Shooting
