Nikon Z50II camera randomly flickers/switches into photo mode during video recording (intermittent issue)
I’m having a really strange intermittent issue with my Nikon Z camera and wanted to know if anyone has experienced something similar.
While recording video, the camera sometimes briefly flickers/switches into photo mode for a split second. It’s random — sometimes it happens multiple times, sometimes the camera works perfectly fine for long recordings.
The issue probably started happening since recent times so it could be due to a firmware update, the camera is currently on 1.04 and ive experienced the same issue on 1.03 previously too and the camera was on 1.02 before that. The camera is fairly new being bought in december last year and has gone through beaches and dusty environments but nothing too excessive and nothing like long term outdoor exposure at all.
Things I’ve already tried:
- Reset settings
- Formatted SD cards
- Tried different SD cards
- Updated firmware
- Tested without SD card
- Different movement/orientation tests
It honestly feels like the camera is momentarily detecting a mode switch or ghost input.
Nikon support suggested service center inspection, but before I travel all the way there I wanted to know:
- Has anyone experienced this on a Z-series body?
- Did it end up being hardware or firmware?
- Did anything permanently fix it?
Would really appreciate any insight because the randomness makes it hard to diagnose.
I have attached a video showing the issue happening where ive switched from photo to video and the flickering is happening without me even touching the switch at all, just wanted to know if anyone has experienced similar issues and if anyone has a idea of why this could be happening or weather the service center visit is the only option. Any help/suggestions etc are appreciated. Thank you
