My adult children will all call me on Mother's Day, and for my two daughters, well, that's okay, cause we talk every week. But my son pays no attention to me all year and then calls on Mother's Day and I don't know what to say to him. "Oh, thanks for the call," I say, but I wish I had the nerve to say, "I'd be happier if you called every week instead of once a year." Pfooey. I'd rather get a card than a call anyway.
The holiday always seemed forced to me, and I think about all the women who wish they were mothers or wish they weren't mothers or who had a lousy mother. So, I think I'll take an edible, take my take the phone off the hook (so to speak) and hang out in the back yard with a box of chocolates. How about you?
