Structural Intern - A Bit Confused
Hi all,
I'm not really sure what I need to ask. I am currently doing a summer internship and I don't know if this is how an internship really feels like. So far its been two weeks and I haven't been asked to do anything substantial or even admin/paperwork outside of HR on-boarding stuff.
I have emailed and teams messaged and so far its either been no reply or something along the lines of "we're still waiting on information so I don't have anything for you right now". I have met about a third of the active staff here in the office and already pretty comfortable with my neighboring cubicle guy and my supervisor. Most of the others are either in a different structural department or higher ups that I wouldn't normally engage with as an intern anyways.
Here is some context (that I've gathered over the two weeks from my supervisor/software dept./company leadership/office manager):
- multi-state medium sized structural firm in the southeast US
- my role is an analysis type (forces/connections/model analysis/BIM stuff)
- very loose hours (I.E. I can basically come and go as I please)
I don't want to come off as an annoying newbie intern, buzzing around the office and disturbing others' work just to ask for any tasks to do. At the same time, I don't want to sit all day and get paid to do software learning and not actually using it.
I'm going to continue to ask and see if anyone will give me anything to do but I just wanted to see if you all have some comment/advice on my situation. Thank you.
If any more context is needed please let me know.
