I'm trying to build some short story lessons into my students' classes for next semester. I'm aiming for stuff that's not too long (so alas, "The Great God Pan" is out), but still high-quality. Unfortunately, most of my choices (Jamaica Kinkcaid's "Girl," Ted Chaing's "Story of Your Life," etc.) are from the late 20th century. I'd love to have recommendations for stuff that either pre-dates the 1980s or was published in the last 10 years.

For the record, I use a lot of Poe in another class, hence why I'm skipping him for this new curriculum.
