Old Saint Elizabeth Building: what's the deal?
I was walking around the neighborhood this weekend and did a full lap around the campus.
What a shame to have such an incredible building fall into disrepair.
I did some research and I can see that the property was purchased after St. E relocated, and one small portion of the campus is being used as a nursing home. According to public records the nursing home houses less than 80 long term care patients.
I can see on Google maps that perhaps a hair salon or something operates from there now as well?
I can see the county and city have been citing the property owner (out of state private equity) for years over lack of rodent and insect control.
Has anyone been inside the property recently? Is it just 90%+ empty/unusued?
I'd imagine renovation of a 100+ year old hospital is incredibly expensive: century old mechanicals, asbestos, etc. But does the city have any way to force them to at least clean the exterior of the building?
Does anyone have any information on any effort to see the property through to its potential?
