Is it normal for Upwork client conversations to drop after initial replies?

I’ve been noticing a pattern on Upwork and wanted to understand if others experience the same thing.

Sometimes a client replies after a proposal and the conversation starts, but then it stops after 1–2 messages even when they appear active on the platform.

I’m trying to understand if this is normal behavior on Upwork or if there are common reasons behind it (timing, decision process, client habits, etc.).

Would appreciate insights from freelancers who have more experience with this.

Here’s your improved community post with that detail added naturally and cleanly:

Hi everyone,

I need help understanding why my Upwork proposals are not getting responses.

I’m a Top Rated freelancer with 89% Job Success Score. My main niche is online course editing and educational video editing. Recently, I’ve also been applying to short-form video editing and AI-related video editing jobs to expand my opportunities.

In the last month, I submitted around 34 proposals. However, I did not receive any replies. Only about 6 proposals were viewed, and none led to a response.

One thing I noticed is that I’m using the same proposal format on another profile I collaborate with, and that profile is actually getting responses. This makes me think the issue might not be the proposal itself, but something else like profile positioning, targeting, or account performance.

I’m trying to understand what might be going wrong. Is it a targeting issue, profile positioning, or something else?

I would really appreciate any feedback or insights from experienced freelancers or clients on Upwork.

Thanks in advance.
