I think I may be suffering with occipital neuralgia. I am 51 year old male.
I have had tension like headaches before but nothing on this scale. My GP has prescribed 20 mg of amitriptyline per night but it isnt helping as the pain is getting worse when I lie down to sleep. When I sit up, the pain dissipates in about 15 minutes.
The pain is a dull toothache type pain on the top of my head and around my eye socket. The right side of my neck feels stiff too.
On a pain scale id say the pain is a 9/10 and is absolutely debilitating.
I have had a deep tissue massage on my neck and shoulders but this hasnt solved anything. I have been thinking about an indian head massage too.
However, I feel like the pain could be from a trapped nerve in my upper neck and any form of massage isnt going to cut it.
I would really appreciate any advice or guidance fellow sufferers can give.
