So I (17f) haven’t been getting along with my dad (49m) and it feels like a lot of his actions aren’t really how a Christian should act, and it feels like he’s pulling me further away from God but idk what to do. Some examples of how he acts are doing things that my brothers want to do but then almost never doing anything that I want to do, it also seems like he favours my brothers over me because he’s always like “(brothers name) how are you?” or “(brothers name) how was ______ class?” and he almost never asks those questions about me.
He’s also really rude to me a lot, like I’ll be asking him a very simple question or politely say something and his tone will make it seem like he’s whining or really mad about something, or I’ll be standing somewhere and instead of simply asking me to move he just pushes me aside, I think that he’s kind of hypocritical for all of these actions because every time that I do/say something even remotely rude he always tells me to be nicer.
And I’ve never seen him pick up a bible either (I’m not judging him for that, cuz it’s not exactly like I’ve been reading the bible recently (I’m still trying to read it more often tho). But for someone who forces people (my brother) to attend youth group I think he should pick up the bible more often).
He laughs at sexist jokes too, like the one about women being terrible drivers, which hurts bc I’m a woman, and it’s also really annoying bc he does that and still expects me to want to learn how to drive. And I’ve also never heard anything along the lines of “I’m sorry” come out of his mouth (and then he still expects me to apologize every time I do something wrong (which I would apologize anyways, but if he expects it of me then I think he should be setting a good example and apologize too instead of making some snarky remarks)). And he thinks that he knows me really well but he didn’t even notice when I was struggling with mental health a few years ago. Thankfully Im doing a lot better now because my friends and my faith helped me a lot.
I would say that it could all be because of stress from work, but he’s literally retired now and he still does all of this (I could literally be on my knees sobbing right in front of him and he wouldn’t notice).
It’s not like I’ve always had a bad relationship with him but I still haven’t been close to him in like 4+ years (we probably would’ve stayed close for longer if he actually did any of the stuff that I wanted to do, but most of the time he just doesn’t want to do stuff because it’s “for girls”, which most of the time it’s literally a gender neutral activity (like going to see a movie that just happens to have a female lead (like super hero movies or something (it’s not like I’d ask him to go see Barbie with me)))).
I hope that wasn’t too confusing.
Any advice/bible verses would be greatly appreciated thank you.
Also I’m not trying to say that he’s not a real Christian or anything like that, it’s just that I think he should be treating people better, especially since I’m his daughter and sometimes he makes me feel like he doesn’t love me or at least that he favours my brothers (jsyk I love my brothers, and my relationship with them has nothing to do with how I feel about my dad).
