Did I Make a Mistake Choosing Digital Marketing as My Career? I Feel Lost and Don't Know What to Do Next.....

Hi everyone,

My name is Harshita, and I have more than 2 years of experience in Digital Marketing. I have completed both my B.Com and M.Com degrees.

After one of my university exams, I had a long vacation. During that time, I thought it would be a good idea to do something productive and earn some money. I went to Chandigarh to stay with my cousin, and through one of their contacts, I got a job opportunity.

Interestingly, that job was not related to my educational background at all. Still, I decided to give it a try because it was only for the holidays. What I didn't know at that time was that I would actually start enjoying that field and develop a genuine interest in it.

Unfortunately, due to some personal reasons, I had to leave that job after only three months and return to my village.

About a year later, I moved to Delhi and decided to continue working in the same field. I joined a company and worked there for around ten months. After that, I started feeling that I might be missing some important skills, so I enrolled in a course to improve myself and learn more professionally.

Later, I joined another company, but due to internal office issues, that job ended within just two months.

Now I find myself questioning whether choosing Digital Marketing as a career was one of the biggest mistakes of my life.

The biggest challenge I have faced throughout my journey is the lack of proper guidance. I always wanted to work under experienced seniors who could mentor me, teach me, and help me grow professionally. But in most of my jobs, I had to figure things out on my own.

During interviews, companies often describe the role one way, but once I join, the reality is very different. The companies themselves were not necessarily bad, but I never got the mentorship I was hoping for. Sometimes I accepted jobs because the salary seemed reasonable, thinking I would learn everything gradually. Unfortunately, that didn't happen.

Now I am considering switching to the Accounts field because it is related to my educational background. But I am confused.

If I start in Accounts as a fresher, my salary will probably be much lower. With today's expenses and cost of living, that worries me a lot.

I know I am willing to work hard. I have dedication and a strong desire to learn. But I honestly feel stuck. Sometimes I don't know where to start, what decision to make, or whether I am simply overthinking everything.

Has anyone gone through something similar? Should I continue in Digital Marketing and focus on building my skills independently, or should I restart my career in Accounts?

I would really appreciate any advice or honest opinions.

Thank you for reading.
