Questions about Barnard
Hello!
I'm an admitted sophomore transfer (interested in humanities/social sciences but major TBD) to Barnard and have a few questions, if anyone can provide some insight I’d really appreciate it:
- How small does the campus feel? I’d be coming from a large university so I love the idea of small classes but to my understanding Barnard’s campus is just a few buildings and Flutter Field. Does that ever feel claustrophobic/stifling if you don’t choose to go into NYC a lot?
- How easy is it to actually get small classes (~15 people or less)?
- Is there a lot of guidance during the major/career exploration process if you look for it? Have those services been helpful for figuring those things out?
- How competitive are clubs, especially preprofessional clubs, for transfers? Is it harder to get involved or find community in general for introverts?
- How would people describe the student body at Barnard in terms of personality/friendliness? Is it a cliquey environment? Any tips from other transfer students on acclimating?
- Any comments on the quality of food/housing? Are there vegetarian food options and options for people with allergies? How are the dorms? How feasible is it to find affordable off-campus housing if needed (transfer housing isn’t guaranteed)?
- (especially for transfer students) Has/how has Barnard changed you and been a place for growth? What do you wish you knew before making your transfer decision?
Thank you so much for helping me out and reading my many questions! :)
