Can anyone identify this bird, spotted in Brighton, Utah

I live in Utah. I went to work on the sprinklers and found this inside the sprinkler box! I poked it with a stick and the red stuff is liquid of some sort. Can anyone identify this and tell me more about the bright red liquid? Thanks much!
