Shatter SHT-1 and SHT-3

First encountered amongst the ranks of a Merc unit named LEGION in 3055, the SHT-1 Shatter is a 40-ton Battlemech that appears, at first glance, to be little more than an upscaled Spider.

Built on a Clan-spec Endo-Steel chassis, powered by a 400-rated Clan-built XXL fusion engine, and clad in 7.5 tons of Clan Ferro-Fibrous armour, the Shatter appears to be little more than a solid brick of steel and myomer.

The SHT-1 Shatter, encountered in 3055, has four half-ton blocks of spikes mounted on each of its side torso locations. Able to run at 162kph, the SHT-1 is shockingly mobile for its size, and is easily able to manoeuvre itself into an advantageous position. Once it has, its MechWarrior can activate its onboard engine supercharge and Myomer Accelerator Signal Circuitry to reach speeds of up to 270kph before slamming into opposing BattleMechs.

First encountered in 3063, the SHT-3 Shatter removes two of the blocks of spikes from each side torso and replaces them with a flamer and two ER micro lasers in each location, all Clan-spec. While this variant loses some of its impact, both psychological and literal, it gains significant capabilities in eliminating hostile infantry units, and remains able to contribute to the fight once it has lost some of its armour with significantly reduced risk compared to its predecessor.

The SHT-1 proved popular amongst lower-ranked LEGION MechWarriors, a sentiment that only grew after Hastatus Adrian Pyne used his to crush the cockpit of a Clan Smoke Jaguar Mad Cat on Kiamba III in 3059.

The SHT-3, while more popular with command elements of LEGION due to its expanded versatility, was less so with the 'Mech's pilots, who claimed that "all those guns get in the way of the fun part".
