Pls Help! Only leather couch staining everything after using protective balm
Hi, I'm trying to find an answer quickly as this is our only couch and nothing seems to work. Hoping to find an alternative to resolene which I see everyone recommend (but hear it leaves a plastic feeling film). Maybe I haven't waited long enough for the balm to dry but here's the story.
My girlfriend's mom let us have her old navy blue leather couch. It is nice but there are definitely cracks and some peeling. I wanted to restore it but stayed away from any dyes or recoloring balms for the concern of staining. I saw with those that they all recommended a specific cleaning product first. Then I found Bick LP protective balm. Nothing mentioning needing to clean the couch and no one reported the material transferring dye onto clothes.
About 24hrs agao I applied a thick later of the balm. too thick. The couch was absorbing it so I thought it was fine. I've buffed and buffed and used microfiber towels. I applied a light layer of 50/50 soap and water to try and get the excess (oddly enough almost nothing would transfer when I used this?), and applied some heat to the couch. Still where the cracks are at the base of the cushion will transfer a bit of dye if I apply pressure and rub.
I'm losing my mind and if I buff anymore its going to make the material worse. I'm thinking of trying a leather sealer like this https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0G7XHTXJ3/ref=ox_sc_act_title_1?smid=A3100LA9GH31TC&th=1
Would greatly appreciate if anyone who actually knows what they are doing could chime in with their answer. Thanks!
