Dual monitors or ultrawide for gaming?

About a year ago I upgraded from a 27in 1440p ips to a 32in 4k oled when it went out. I’ve loved the oled but didn’t really notice a change in visuals from 1440p to 4k resolution. I did however notice the performance drop in games even with a rtx 4090. I’ve had a cheap secondary monitor with both of these as I like to watch YouTube and twitch streams while I play games a lot of the time.

Recently I’ve been thinking of switching back to a 27in 1440p oled. I then also had the idea of a 34in or 38in ultrawide pop in my head and considering those as well in a 1440p equivalent resolution. The problem I’m having is I’m worried that while I may not have noticed the jump from 1440p to 4k like I did went I went from 1080p to 1440p I’m worried if I go back down I will start to notice the difference and not like it.

I also can’t decide on an ultrawide or not because I like having a second monitor to watch videos and streams on while I game. I don’t do much productivity work so my setup is mostly gaming and some random browsing. I play a lot of different games from competitive to immersive as well. Anything from overwatch, escape from tarkov, story games and recently mostly final fantasy 14 and world of Warcraft.

I’ve seen some setups with an ultrawide monitor and a smaller “portable” monitor under it and it looks nice but would it be practical for what I want. I feel like an ultrawide and another full size 24in or 27in monitor would be a bit much though.

If anyone has any recommendations on what they think would suit my needs best I would really appreciate the help. As I said above my main concerns are I want to go back to 1440p but worried I may notice the visual change. The other is does an ultrawide make sense in my use case and is there a good way to get what I want out of my setup with one.
