Mother-in-laws son (21) is squatting in her basement with his gf (22)
About a week ago, my MILs son got kicked out of school for reasons. She let him stay in the basement as long as his gf didn’t enter the house.
A little backstory. He has always been an asshole to everyone, yet still gets everything. His college paid for, his car paid for ect. He ended up with this crazy girl around 2 years ago, and things just keep getting worse. First he went homeless in his car for a year, because he didn’t want a job, or to have rules in a house. Then when they were let back into the house, he allowed his gf to rot with him in the basement (again with no job). Finally he goes back to school and continues to “get kicked out” every other week (he allowed his gf to stay in his dorm for the whole year, while she fought with everyone there. Getting wellness check called by the dorms next store all the time) This last time they got actually kicked out of the dorm is when my MIL allowed him to come back home as long as he bettered himself, and didn’t allow the gf inside. (This girl would also scream such mean things to my MIL while she let her live in HER house, a long side threatening her)
Jump back to the present, the son is allowed back in while my gf was dog sitting, though we were out. Son tells MIL that his gf is not inside and that she is sleeping in his car. Knowing that they can’t leave each others sides (and we didn’t want our stuff stolen) we called a friend nearby to go and drive past the house to make sure she was really in car. Of course, she wasn’t there, and he sent us picture proof. We then called MIL to let her know, but she swore up and down that son told her that shes in the car.
Around a week passes, MIL walks into the basement while son is screaming to not come down cause “he’s naked” (spoiler; he wasn’t) his gf is hiding under blankets. She was in this house for a week, going un noticed and staying while everyone was gone. So MIL calls the police to have them taken out of the house.
This is when we need legal help. The cops said that they couldn’t take them out of the house because “MIL invited son to stay, and son invited evil gf to stay. Because he was invited to stay, he had a right to be there, and because he invited her in, she had a right to be there.”
This makes NO sense to me, or really any of us. They do not own this house, nor do they have any documentation of a lease or any bills. So how do they have the right to squat. I can understand the son being allowed?? A little bit? Because he has that on his ID. But how is evil gf allowed to stay? She doesn’t even have an ID.
Currently, MIL has gone to the magistrate and the son/evil gf have been served. They have 5 days to respond or it defaults in our favor. But I’m nervous they are going to do something CRAZY in the next couple days. Last night son took a handful of MILs antibiotics, realized he could go through with it and spit in on MILs desk while she was asleep. 4am rolls around and there is police at her door, while evil gf and son are spouting lies about “she’s been hitting and threatening us” “she’s crazy, do you see the drugs she’s left out (talking about the pills he spit on her desk)” Of course they don’t believe them, but what the fuck do we do to get them out.
Sorry for the rambling of this question, I’m seething right now and needed to vent it out. But please let me know what we can do. We are in WV by the way.
