Subs like r/heat_prep as a gateway to climate action
Hi r/climateoffensive, I’m a mod at r/heat_prep and I wanted to share some thing we’re seeing and how they may be relevant to this sub. Heat_prep balloons in activity each summer often with people just becoming aware of the dangers of heat (many who are asking for advice about a heat wave that’s impacting them). Adaptation is more visceral for people who are not engaged in climate activism because it’s often seen as immediate survival/safety, and yet it can be a gateway towards climate change awareness and action by getting people together to recognize the growing collective threat. I think it’s also becoming clearer and more urgent to discuss the path we’re on surpassing any possible adaptive capacity for billions of people - highlighting the urgency for mitigation.
