Low key obsessed with Ratmansky's Coppélia.

Has anyone seen the recording of the ballet of La Scala, Milan in Coppélia coreopgraphed by Alexei Ratmansky? I am completely obsessed by it at the moment, especially the amazing Nicoletta Manni as everyone's favourite vandal, Swanilda.

With an exquisite set and costume designs, the coreography is traditional but with a modern twist and really strong dramatic layer. The acting is amazing, particularly during the Scène and Waltz of the Doll in Act 2. Coppelius himself is a much younger character than usual and a sort of cross between the Nutty Professor and the professor from Back to the Future. The storyline is allowed to go pretty dark in Act II where he tries to steal Franz's soul and ends up groping Swanilda in a sexual tension that adds to his creepiness. Anyway, I was wondering if anyone else loved it as much as I did. There is a clip of the Waltz of the Doll here:

When did enchaînement become combination?

When I was a dance student in the 70s and 80s teachers exclusively used the word 'enchaînement' in ballet classes for what was called a 'combination' in Modern, Jazz, or Tap classes. I've recently noticed that almost everybody says combination now in ballet classes and almost no-one (apart from me, it seems) says enchaînement. When did this happen and is anyone old enough to have noticed?

Is anyone currently studying for the Certificate in Dance Teaching (Ballet) in the USA? I have some logistical questions. If you are an RAD hater (as some here are) I don't want to know.

So my favourite ballet shoes died in class today. They were a pair of Sodanca flesh coloured canvas shoes with a split sole. They were ultra comfortable and were almost like not wearing shoes as they had stretched to the exact shape of my foot. Looking online I can't find a replacement pair. What do you all love? Any recommendations for my next pair? I have three other pairs (2 leather, 1 canvas) which I love a lot less (Freeds and Sansha).

UPDATE: Thanks for all your comments and advice. I actually visited a new shop yesterday where I tried out a pair of Bloch Performa. They are the most.comfortable shoes I've ever put on but I also found myself going two sizes DOWN from my street shoe size. They only had them in white but sand is available online so if these are OK I might go with them. I haven't danced in them yet but did a couple of pirouettes and some adage in the shop and rhey felt very stable. I'll update after class later today. They make my feet look great, btw.

I started dancing at age 8 (too many years ago to say when 😆). i was bullied mercilessly at school until people realised I was actually quite good at it and then left me alone. I went to full-time dance academy for pre-professional at 16 and was bullied there too but for different reasons. What about you? What's your story?

In the last years mens expectations have changed!they dont need to be tough dirty hard workers anymore they should be muscular well maintaines and confident!according to most woman in this century!all these things fit well into ballet so why are there still so little of them?I know most men (and me) dont like wearing tights or thongs(dancebelts) but you can grow into it and feel confident in them later on!

We might raise the number of dancers and change thier immage if we advertise ballet as muscular and fit sport!

This is my opinion i am sorry if i upset someone with this post!
