My first E39&Problems

I did it. I bought my first BMW E39.

It is a 1998 528i manual and its fantastic drive.

Friday I drove it 150km home and yesterday it was maintenance time.

I noticed that a few spark plugs were very oily and the vanos made a few noises. So then I installed spark plugs from NGK and made an oil change.

Also it got a new air filter and cabin air filters:)

Now the car feels more powerful and after a long drive with revs up to 6000rpm, vanos rattle is gone.

Of course, there is still a lot of work to be done, the door at the back left no longer opens from the inside and the driver's door window lifter also creaks. The sun roller blind at the back also falls down because there is no more hook to hang on the right and the fabric hangs a bit from the columns.

Anyways, I never drove a car that feels so relaxing and everytime I drive it, it makes me smile.

How does the M52 feel?

So I am looking for a e39 and was thinking about getting a 530i, but heard about high oil consumption ans missing horses.

Now I wondered how the 528i feels.

It has 40hp less, bute I read that the engines have a lot more hp than on paper.

193 hp for the 528i and 231hp for the 530i, but the 530i should be about 220hp and the 528i like 210-215.

Is this true? Has the M52 enough power for the 5 series?
