Tips for cleaning dirt and (likely) mold spots off of hammock after years under an avocado tree?
Thank you for reading!
I'm trying to get my old hammock back into chilling-in-the-yard condition, but it's been out under our tree for years gathering dirt.
I've soaked and agitated it in the plastic bin (pictured) twice with laundry detergent and cold water for an hour or so each time, as getting very hot water outside in that volume would be a bit more of a hassle than using the hose in the yard (though that's next -- I'm just getting started). These photos were taken after the two soaks.
Both soaks produced dirty water, of course, so it's certainly cleaner than before, but I'm hoping to get it looking a bit better.
Due to the way it's built, I can't detach the ropes from the wooden 'bows,' so unfortunately doing a machine wash is out of the question.
Might putting together a concoction of OxiClean and/or a bit of bleach and hot water do this old timer some good? I'm not too concerned about bleach washing out the pattern, as I'm more interested in function than fashion at this point. I may get a hammock cover for future idle periods to prevent it from reaching this state in the future, assuming I can clean this one up.
Thank you so much for any input here!
