Anti reconsidering AI stance, but can't get around one issue

I would love to hear your perspectives on this.

I have heard the argument that the issues with AI are largely issues with capitalism and not AI itself. I don't think this is an entirely bad argument, and I myself struggle between boycotting it and thinking that we should instead be involved so we can influence the how its used.

But the thing I can't get around is that even if AI would be great in the hands of better leadership, it is simply not. And as it is, it will be and is being used for terrible things and is making it possible for a horrible agenda to be put forth. We have things like propaganda, mass misinformation, surveillance, job displacement, etc.

What is the argument for supporting AI right now? While it IS controlled by far right crazy rich people? Shouldn't we stop them from having AI by not supporting it until it is in better hands?

Like.. sure, AI could be great if instead of being used to fire most people it was used to bring about 4 or even 3 day work weeks, or more vacation time, or universal income, etc.

But its simply not going to be used like that.

I don't think the capitalist based issues are the only problems, but just looking for some viewpoints on this particular thing for now. Would love to hear what y'all think

Beginner artist, looking for some feedback

I have been doing digital art for around 4-5 months and worked on this piece to learn a how to paint shadows on skin to show muscles but I have been struggling a lot with blending things that are detailed.

After a lot of struggling, this is where I ended at, but I feel like she is looking more masculine than in the image and I am not sure what I am doing wrong.

Would love any other additional feedback you may have too if you spot anything else I am doing wrong!

I used adobe fresco with the oil paint live brushes for the painting.

Thank you guys!

+edit: I know the hands suck lol 😂

Psychology Phd UChicago?

I am hoping to apply for a psychology phd at UChicago but I am not sure if I even have any realistic chance of getting in.

So my background: I graduated with my psych bachelors from Rutgers University in NJ with a 3.0. I did not do any research at the time or a thesis. My transcripts are essentially all As for the first year and a half and the last year, but in the middle years of college I was struggling with depression which brought my gpa down significantly, with lots of Fs and withdrawals.

After I left school, I worked for about 7 years, 4 of which were in market research at a data company where I had several big name Fortune 100 companies as clients.

I have been successful at my corporate career, but I always liked the idea of being a researcher and becoming a psychology professor better, and I have been thinking of making that move now.

My plan is to go for a masters so I can get research experience and improve my gpa, but my options are limited because of logistics and costs since I fully support myself and don't have a second income or family that can help me out. My options for psych masters that are research focused and affordable are basically Montclair State, Rutgers Newark, Rutgers Camden, and the CUNY universities in NY.

If I went back for a masters and got a good gpa + research experience, would I have a shot at UChicago without having gone to an elite school and also having a bad bachelors gpa?

UChicago is a 100% match to what I want to research, I literally am interested in pretty much every single thing they mentioned in their program description and Chicago is the only other place in the US I would move to other than Jersey, but I definitely haven't been preparing to go to an elite school so no idea if its a pipe dream or doable in my case.

Do I have a chance on this?
