Opinions on National University for a PhD?

Hi all!

I’m finishing up my second year of teaching at middle school and have been feeling so much stress. Maybe it’s the kids this year that they’re so rowdy, but I’m questioning where I am right now. I do know it’s teaching and who wouldn’t question their career each year, and yes it’s also the preteen/teen behavior.

Some background, I graduated with two bachelor degrees: one in secondary education and one in mathematics. Then, continued and got my master’s in equity and diversity in education.

I’m contemplating on going back for a PhD (it’s been an on and off thought for a year) in some form of education (and as a hope to teach at a higher level), but with having a full time job teaching, it would be rough going from work to the university back and forth, along with the lesson planning, grading, and course work jumbled together.

I don’t want to leave teaching, especially being so early on in the career, or maybe I should find a different career in the education field. Either way, I wouldn’t want to quit my job to focus on a PhD.

I’ve heard a lot of mixed things with finding a fully online PhD program, and that PhDs should be done in person. Looking into National University, it sounds interesting and I did see a degree that I’d be interested in if I were to apply.

Is it reputable and worth the time and money?

Otherwise, does anyone know any legitimate universities that have an online PhD program in education?

Thanks for the help!
