So I know a shop nearby, that sells all kinds of stuff, basically a thrift store but for more "technical" stuff.
Amongst many things they sell "Old" and "Broken" PC parts. Recently they started selling HDDs that apparently came from server farms. One time they were selling a batch off HDDs that had peculiar Notes written on them: "B S", My brain clicked and I rightly assumed that it meant Bad sectors, so now I have "fully" functioning 5 and 10 TB HDDs. Aside of the bad sectors, which are kinda not a big problem, they run surprisingly well.
Now there is a new batch of HDDs that have Number combinations that I suspect also indicated specific problems.
I wanted to ask the sellers if they knew anything about them, but the guy there said that they don't really care to ask the Problems as they get the batch for less then bare metal scrap price.
Now, I kinda want to know if it's worth to get them, They are cheap, but I don't see a reason to buy paperweight if they are completely bricked.
5+80
A+80
12+80
4+80
1+50
B+50
and some variations of that
I kinda think that those might be some Crystaldiskinfos? I don't really know, But I wouldn't mind having a couple 12TB that have some "Minor Problems"
Any Ideas ?
