AI reminds me of the Night King from Game of Thrones, and I think the Long Night is coming for workers except there is no Arya to save
Not because AI is evil, but because of how fast it is advancing and how little control ordinary people have over it
Some quotes from the show describe exactly what worries me and I feel bit dramatic about it and it's not related to Salesforce only, but every software and desk jobs
"Does death only come for the wicked and leave the decent behind?" — Jaqen H'ghar
Imagine a father with four children who has worked hard for 10-20 years to give his family a good life, a good father, a good person and a loyal hardworking employee who has done everything right..
But one day his company discovers that AI can do most of his work for much less money
Does being a good person save his job?
Does having four children matter?
Just like death, AI-driven job doesn't care
"The enemy always wins" — Beric Dondarrion
People keep telling workers to learn new skills and adapt, but what even if you're learning and trying to absorb as much information as you can, what you're really doing is telling "Death" "Not Today", but death is coming, because you're just trying to survive as muc as you can, but if you're honnest and have seen how AI was doing last 3-4 years, you'd know it's just a matter of time before it's over, agents (army of the dead) will do everything, from handling meetings to project management, to architecture to simple tasks
How many times can a human being start over?
"The dead don't rest" — Benjen Stark
This is one of the most terrifying parts of the army of the dead
Human soldiers need sleep, food and rest
But the dead (agents) never stop marching
AI doesn't sleep, take holidays, get pregnant, need sick leave or retire (Jon Snow : Our enemy does not tire, does not stop, does not feel)
"Winter is coming" — Ned Stark
For years, the Starks warned everyone that winter was coming
But most people in the south (it's us :( ) were too busy with their daily lives to care, today we keep hearing that AI will change everything, but most of us still wake up, go to work, pay our bills and hope our professions will survive, but what can we do to survive the WINTER ?
"The night is dark and full of terrors" — Melisandre
What scares me isn't only unemployment, It's what happens after unemployment, a person loses their job, then their income, then their ability to support their family, maybe they have children, a mortgage or parents who depend on them, now imagine this happening to millions of people at the same time ? that's what will happen at the end
Some countries have strong social protection systems, others don't, the same AI revolution could bring prosperity to one country and serious problems to most
I could only imagine what will be life in 5 years :((
"There is only one war that matters" — Jon Snow
In Game of Thrones, the great houses were fighting for the Iron Throne while the army of the dead was approaching and I see something similar today, countries (US & China) are competing to dominate AI, companies are spending billions to become more powerful than their competitors, buut who is preparing the ordinary workers?
Who is thinking about developing countries that don't own powerful AI models or data centers?
While the powerful compete for control of the technology, the rest of the world may have to live with the consequences, and just give their money to these two so they can just survive..
