Hi everyone, I'm currently wrapping up my masters in environmental science in Canada. I also did my undergrad here in environmental biology. I've really enjoyed my thesis work, have gotten a lot of field work experience, and feel passionate about the field, but a PhD isn't really in the cards for me right now.
I've looked into environmental consulting jobs and I'm feeling really stuck like I've made a mistake with my degree choice despite my passion for the field as a whole. A lot of jobs prefer someone with a P.Geo or a P.Eng accreditation (or someone who can qualify for them in the future) and after reviewing the PGO website, I'd probably still need about 17 courses to qualify so I'm not really sure that it's the best use of my time right now to go back to school just to get that done.
I'm wondering if I should pivot to another type of environmental career or target listings that specifically want a environmental scientist rather than a consultant. I've even seen some listings from consulting firms that have that job title, but typically they require a few years of experience in the field first.
I'd love to hear your thoughts, experiences, and advice for what someone like me could do. Have you experienced something similar and did you pivot to something else?
Thank you for your time and for any advice you can give me, I sincerely appreciate it.
