IP / Copyright attorney?
I had an idea late last year, that morphed into a fascination, which then warped further into a book that I'm really proud of. Aside from some endpaper artwork that I'm waiting on, the entire thing is complete.
It's based on a regional company that has been around nearly a century, and it attempts to catalog every version of their product that has been documented to have existed during that time.
The book is roughly 600 pages, and 130ish of those pages have images on them. Most of the images are portions of (or entire) newspaper ads, which are there strictly as evidence that Thing-X existed on Date-X.
My question is, should I be concerned about this company seeing the book and not liking it? More specifically, them wanting to do something about it? Based on my understanding of fair use, I should be in the clear, but my paranoia is wondering if other people have had experiences in this arena that I should be watching out for?
More importantly, should I hire an attorney to review the book? If I do, am I just giving someone a bunch of money to tell me "Ehh, it's a little risky, but your probably fine?"
